Reese’s Puff Marshmallow Treats

I love sharing no bake recipes! They’re so easy and perfect for when they weather starts to get warm and you don’t want to turn on the oven. Since perfecting the original Rice Krispie Treats I started making different versions, and I’ve been wanting to share these Reese’s Puff Marshmallow Treats for awhile! They are the perfect blend of peanut butter and chocolate without being too overpowering. The brown butter and vanilla elevate the flavor and just to make them that more delicious, I topped them with melted milk chocolate and mini Reese’s Cups.

RECIPE TIPS:

  • One easy mistake to make with this recipe is to crush down the mixture when adding it to the pan. You want to gently stretch it into the pan and lightly pat it level with a spatula or your hands.
  • Worried about the mixture sticking to your hands? I have a tip for you: before you touch the mixture, run a few drops of water over your hands and rub them together. The water will prevent the marshmallow mixture from sticking to your hands and allow you to easily manipulate the treats without having to crush them down!
  • This is made in a 9×13 pan. I like to use one with a lid (like this one) so it’s easy to pack up and take to a party or pot luck!

Servings 20 slices

Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter I use salted but you can use unsalted if you prefer!
  • 20 oz mini marshmallows
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 10 cups Reese's Puff cereal I buy the family size box
  • 8 oz milk chocolate chips
  • ½ cup mini Reese's Cups roughly chopped

Instructions

  • Line a 9×13 pan with parchment paper. Lightly mist with nonstick cooking spray and set aside. In a large pot melt the butter over medium heat. Once melted, continually stir until the butter just begins to brown. The butter should foam up twice and then begin to give off almost a nutty aroma. Immediately remove from heat so the butter does not burn.
  • Stir in two teaspoons of vanilla extract. The hot mixture will bubble up, so allow it to bubble up until the sizzling subsides. Whisk in the salt.
  • Add in half of your marshmallows and mix until almost completely melted before adding the remaining. Stir until all of the marshmallows are entirely combined and melted. At this point, add in the Reese's Puffs, 2 cups at a time, and use a silicon spatula to fold until combined. Continue to add the Reese's Puffs until everything is evenly combined.
  • Pour the mixture into the 9×13 pan. Lightly wet your hands and gently push into the pan to the edges. You don't want to crush it, so be gentle with it!
  • Add the chocolate chips to a heat proof bowl. Microwave for 30 seconds, stir and repeat until completely melted. Once it's ready, set aside for 3 minutes to chill down to room temperature. Using a spoon, drizzle the chocolate onto the treats. Sprinkle on the chopped Reese's Cups and enjoy!

  1. Sheila says:

For the Reese’s puff marshmallow treats you say to take the pot of butter off the heat and you never say to put it back on the stove. Are you saying you mix all other ingredients while the pot is off the stove. I think I would have a hard time getting all the marshmallows to melt if it was not back on the stove. I have been making Rice Krispie squares for many many years and I am certain that the marshmallows would not melt while the pot was off the stove.

    Please advise.

  2. Q says:

Too much butter, too many marshmallows and you can’t melt all those marshmallows without heat. This recipe needs to be revised. If I made this again I’d cut the butter by half and either double cereal or use half the amount of marshmallows.

  3. SLS says:

Ratio of ingredients seems off. Cereal filled the pan well, but way too many marshmallows.

    2 stars
Way too much butter. I had to drain a bunch of it off. I still found they tasted a bit like butter. Good idea and the toppings were good but the base needs some re-working.
