I don’t know about you, but pizza is a staple in my home! Whether we’re ordering dinner for a date night or food for game day, pizza is always one of our go-to’s. When we find a favorite take out, I love to try and recreate it in my kitchen. With this recipe I really wanted to make a dough that was just as delicious as delivery that we could customize to our favorite pie. After several attempts I came up with this easy and delicious Homemade Pizza Dough and I’m so excited to share it with you today!

Full disclosure: my husband and I crave completely different toppings. I love a good veggie pizza while he always wants one with sausage or pepperoni. Sometimes we agree and want a white pizza, with feta and spinach. I like my half with tomatoes, where he won’t touch a tomato. Sometimes I’ll get a little crazy and throw an egg on there. The best part about this recipe is that the possibilities are endless! We’ve found that by making the pizza dough at home we can easily customize it to what we want without having to order multiple pies or paying for extra toppings. Most of the time we’ll just cut it down the center and load up on whatever toppings we like.

Tips for the yeast:
- I like to use Instant Yeast, but if you only have Active Dry Yeast it will still work! Add the Active Dry Yeast, warm water, honey and salt into the bowl of a stand mixer. Allow your yeast to proof in the warm water for 10 minutes. When you return to your bowl, the mixture will have foamed and bubbled up. If it hasn’t, that means your yeast isn’t active and your dough will not rise. From there proceed with the normal recipe!

Before resting
After rising for 1 hour
Tips for the pizza dough:
- Once the dough is done kneading in the stand mixer, coat your large bowl with olive oil completely to avoid it from sticking. That way the dough will roll right out after rising.
- Use a large bowl to rest your dough, similar to this one, so that the damp towel doesn’t stick to the dough. Covering with a damp towel will make sure the top of the dough stays moist and doesn’t get a hard layer on top.

I set out to create an easy, fool-proof way to ensure I could eat one of my favorite meals without having to pay for delivery. Making pizza dough in the comfort of your home is not only super cost-efficient, but it also allows you to eat your favorite kind of pizza, however weird that combination may be. I can’t wait to hear what flavor combinations you come up with!

Homemade Pizza Dough
Ingredients
For the dough:
- 1 package of Instant Yeast (2 ¼ teaspoons)
- 1 cup warm water
- 1 tbsp honey
- 1 ½ tsp kosher salt
- 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 2 tbsp olive oil
For the dough preparation:
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 2-3 tbsp all-purpose flour
Instructions
- In the bowl of a stand mixer, combine the packet of Instant yeast and warm water (think warm bath water). Add in honey and salt. Connect the dough hook and mix on lowest speed for 30 seconds until everything is combined.
- Gradually add in all 2 ½ cups of flour. As it is combining, add the 2 tablespoons of olive oil and 1 teaspoon of garlic powder and mix until combined. Allow mixture to beat on the lowest speed for 10 minutes. This works to knead the dough which means you don't have to knead it yourself!
- While the dough is kneading, take approximately 1 tablespoon of olive oil and use it to coat a large sized bowl. After the 10 minutes is up, the dough should be clinging to the dough hook. Take the dough from the mixer and place it in the oiled bowl. Cover with a damp dish towel and let it sit in a warm, dark area for 1 hour to rise. I like to turn my oven onto the lowest temperature for 2 minutes and turn it off, and leave the dough there to rise.
- After the hour is up and your dough has almost doubled in size, pull the dough from the oven and preheat to 500 degrees. Sprinkle flour on a flat surface area. Roll out the dough to the desired thickness. Transfer dough to a pizza stone or baking sheet. Roll up the edges of the dough to create a crust, and evenly spread out sauce of choice. Layer on the cheese as well as any toppings you would like. Once the oven is preheated, cook for 12-15 minutes or until the crust is golden brown.
